Story

This documentary takes us into the private world of painter Juan Genovés (Valencia, 1930), inside his studio in Aravaca, Madrid. Through his recent work and personal reflections, we revisit Spain’s turbulent recent history and explore his political and social commitment to the times he has lived through. An internationally acclaimed artist, Genovés rises before dawn each day to paint in solitude. Well into his eighties, he remains an inspiring example of vitality, discipline and good humour. His many honours include an Honourable Mention at the 1966 Venice Biennale, the Gold Medal at the 1967 San Marino International Biennale, the Marzotto International Prize (1968), Spain’s National Award for Plastic Arts (1984), the Valencian Government’s Arts Award (2002) and the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, awarded by Spain’s Ministry of Culture (2005).
